For users of XVL Studio Standard and Pro, automated disassembly of parts is fast and easy. This feature allows users to rapidly disassemble a 3D assembly and then recreate the assembly in an animation.
This helps designers and engineers to rapidly understand potential conflicts with the assembly of the design, and be able to make changes well prior to physical prototypes being created.
In XVL Studio, users can also set and define paths and distances for the parts to travel within the disassembly (and reassembly) animation. But that’s for a future session! For today’s tips and tricks, you can now learn how to rapidly create a disassembly animation.
Here’s how.
Step 1. Open XVL file
Open a 3D assembly in XVL, in XVL Studio Standard or Pro.
Step 2. Define the Starting Position
 |
Using the Position Panel in the Control Panel, you need to save assembled and disassembled positions.
First, save an initial position for the assembled parts. When you have your assembly in its initial position, choose Position 1 and click the Add button.
Position-1 will show up in this panel.
|
Step 3. Disassemble the Parts |
 |
Next, create the automated disassembly to be able to set the finishing position.
Open the Disassembly Animation dialog box.
Select which parts you wish to disassemble (all is the usual option)
Click Disassamble all
and select Execute
|
| Step 4. Create the Finishing Position |
|
 |
Set the end position from the Position Panel, by clicking the Add button.
Position-2 will appear listed in this panel. |
| Step 5. Save Disassembly Animation |
|
 |
Next, create the automated disassembly animation.
Open the Disassembly Animation dialog box.
Type in a name for the animation.
Select start position by clicking 'Start Selection' in Start Position, and while this is enabled, select Position-1 from the Position Panel.
Then in the End Position section, click 'start selection' and while this is enabled, select Position-2 from the Position Panel.
Then Click OK and your animation will be created and saved in the XVL model. |
| Step 6. Preview the Animation |
|
 |
After you create the Disassembly Animation, you can preview the result using the Preview button in the Event List dialog box.
Select your animation, and then select Preview.
This kind of animation can also be viewed from an XVL model (which has an animation saved as per the instructions above) using the free XVL Player software from Lattice Technology.
|
 |
Clicking the ‘Play’ button will start the animation from the assembled position to the disassembled position.
Clicking the ‘Reverse Play’ button will reverse the animation to the assembled position. |
