Lattice Technology's XVL implemented at Liebherr Group
XVL Format Provides The Basis to Global 3D Data Expansion by Manufacturers

San Francisco, CA, July 12 2006. Lattice Technology, developers of the ultra-compressed XVL 3D format and 3D publishing applications, today announced the organization-wide adoption of XVL and Lattice software at the Liebherr Group.

The Germany-based Liebherr Group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction machinery, agreed for implementation of an XVL-based (eXtensible Virtual world description Language) information network, supported by Lattice Technology's reseller Docware GmbH.

Liebherr Group plans for XVL software to be used throughout the entire operation, which includes production facilities in 12 countries across the globe, in order to optimize the processing and communication of 3D data for processes downstream of the design phase. 3D CAD data for all Liebherr products will be converted into a compressed XVL form and stored in a database, which can be accessed by all company departments: work preparation, technical documentation, marketing, quality assurance, sales, and production.

Liebherr's decision to choose XVL was due to the enormously high compression rate and the excellent applications available for the further processing of XVL data (creation of exploded drawings, animations, etc.). In Docware GmbH, Liebherr has opted for a competent partner who already successfully serves a number of customers in the XVL environment.

XVL-based compression reduces 3D CAD files to up to one percent of its original file size without loss of clarity of the product data. Software from Lattice Technology enables annotation, animation, and modification to XVL models by non-CAD users. The technology has been successfully applied in large manufacturing operations, most notably at Toyota Motor Company, to overcome the problems of large-size CAD documents.

Hiroshi Toriya, CEO of Lattice Technology comments: "The global trend in practical uses of 3D data and Lattice Technology's technical strategy. We are pleased to see XVL put to use in another worldwide manufacturing enterprise."

About The Liebherr Group

The Liebherr family business was established in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The great success of his first mobile, easy-to-assemble and affordable tower crane was the foundation on which the company flourished. Today Liebherr is not only one of the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery but is also an acknowledged supplier of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in numerous other fields. Over the years the family business has grown into what is today a group of companies, employing a workforce of approx. 22,000 in more than 100 companies on all continents.
