Yes, you can do so with XVL Signer. Simply check No Signature String when signing the file. This is the only way to remove the "Protection recommended" message.
You can use the Access Limit option of XVL Signer to prevent editing a file. With the Access Limit option, you can set different groups with different levels of accessbility. For example, while one group of people can access an XVL file with read-only, another group of people can fully edit that file.
