Lattice Technology’s Connectors for Siemens Teamcenter Increases Productivity and Enables Higher Quality Technical Communications

--Lattice3D Studio Connector for Teamcenter and Lattice3D Publisher Connector for Teamcenter Allows Authoring of 2D and Interactive 3D Technical Communications Directly from Teamcenter--

Dallas, Texas, May 19, 2015—-- Lattice Technology, Inc., an industry leader of technical communication software for the manufacturing industry, today announced the availability of two connectors that enable Teamcenter users to easily take advantage of Lattice3D solutions while in the Teamcenter user interface. The Lattice3D Studio Connector for Teamcenter and the Lattice3D Publisher Connector for Teamcenter allow users to create, update and publish work instructions or any technical communication available from Lattice Technology. As a Siemens PLM Solution Partner, Lattice Technology is demonstrating the new connectors for Teamcenter at PLM World (booth #123) May 19-21 in Dallas, Texas.

Siemens Teamcenter is a leading product lifecycle management (PLM) solution that helps companies improve productivity by managing the lifecycle of a product – from engineering design and manufacturing through sales and customer support. The PLM market is extremely large — expected to reach $75.87 billion by 2022 and growing at a rate of 8.1 per year. [i]

These Lattice3D solutions build on top of 3D design data, which allows users to leverage 3D CAD model data from NX, JT and business data stored in Teamcenter. The connectors are accessed from the Teamcenter menu or with an icon, letting users easily move back and forth between Teamcenter and the Lattice3D environment.

“Lattice Technology solutions bring the most benefit to companies who have heavy data. By heavy data, we mean products that have thousands of parts and/or complex geometry,” explained Bill Barnes, General Manager, Lattice Technology, Inc. “Many other solutions have difficulties handing very large assemblies — they either take too long to load, or they simply can’t load them at all. Because Lattice3D models are accurate and ultra-lightweight — usually one-half of one percent of the native CAD model — users can easily handle heavy data. With Lattice 3D, even assemblies with thousands and thousands of parts can be examined using a standard laptop.”

More Effective Work Instructions

2D or interactive 3D work instructions are just one of the areas where solutions from Lattice Technology can benefit the manufacturing company. Many companies still create assembly work instructions from scratch that are non-interactive, time-consuming to create, subject to language issues, and are not associated to the actual geometry. Some companies wait to have a physical product to take pictures before developing work instructions, manuals and other technical communications materials.

Using Lattice3D Studio Connector for Teamcenter, users can now author complex operations that are easy-to-understand and include step-by-step work instructions with detailed illustrations or interactive 3D leveraged directly from the 3D CAD model. Even when a work instruction contains hundreds of steps (including animations and related parts), the Lattice3D software lets users quickly produce robust technical communications. The result is detailed technical communications created directly from the existing CAD model data that are crystal clear — saving time and enabling increased understanding.

These advanced work instructions can be deployed on tablets, like the Microsoft Surface or the Apple iPad, so that they can be delivered easily to the person using them. And it doesn’t matter where that person is located — on the shop floor, under a vehicle or in the field.

With these new connectors for Teamcenter, the models in the Lattice environment will stay up-to-date by maintaining associativity to the native CAD model in NX or JT. This means that everyone in the enterprise can easily stay in sync. For example, if engineering makes a change to a part or an assembly, the Lattice3D user is notified of the changes and guided through incorporation of the update — saving time, increasing accuracy and improving productivity.

Today’s technical communications solutions with Lattice Technology:

  • Detailed pictures and animations – minimal or no language needed. Pictures are understood in all languages!
  • Step-by-step pictures with animations to plainly and simply demonstrate processes.
  • Complete product model and/or part is captured directly from engineering 3D data—fast, simple, accurate.
  • Associative. When a change occurs upstream, everything is automatically updated everywhere.
  • Fast, accurate, simple.
